Abstract

Metaphor is traditionally regarded as a stylistic device primarily associated with literary language. Cognitive linguistics, however, views metaphor as a fundamental mechanism through which people conceptualize abstract experience. This article examines the role of conceptual metaphor in contemporary English media discourse. Particular attention is given to conceptual patterns such as POLITICS IS WAR, ECONOMY IS A LIVING ORGANISM, INFORMATION IS A RESOURCE, and LIFE IS A JOURNEY. Drawing on conceptual metaphor theory and discourse analysis, the study explains how metaphorical expressions structure public understanding of complex social realities. It argues that metaphors in media communication do not simply decorate language; they select particular aspects of reality, organize interpretation, and influence the conceptual framing of events.
