MODERN METHODS FOR DEVELOPING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Abstract
This article examines modern methods for developing learners’ communicative competence in English language teaching from a pedagogical and methodological perspective. In the context of globalization and digital communication, foreign language proficiency is no longer limited to mastering grammatical rules and expanding vocabulary; it also requires the ability to express ideas clearly, independently, and appropriately in authentic communicative situations. The article discusses the potential of the communicative approach, Task-Based Language Teaching, the Action-Oriented Approach, collaborative learning, problem-based activities, role-play, project-based learning, and technology-mediated communicative tasks. Particular attention is paid to the use of authentic materials, pair and small-group interaction, learner autonomy, critical thinking, and reflective assessment. The study argues that the systematic integration of these approaches can contribute to learners’ practical use of English, increase their communicative engagement, and prepare them for communication in real-life academic and professional contexts.
