Abstract

This article analyzes the ethnocultural changes that have occurred in British society since the second half of the 20th century, the processes of emigration, and their artistic expression in literature. In the study, within the framework of postcolonial theory, national identity, hybridity, intercultural dialogue, and the phenomenon of  “exile” are highlighted in the works of such writers as Edward Said, Homi Bhabha, Salman Rushdie, V.Naipol, H.Kuraishi, and Timothy Mo. Also, based on scientific analysis, the issues of multiculturalism in English literature, the socio-cultural role of emigrant intellectuals, and the new proportions of the metropolis and periphery are revealed.
