DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS’ PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE THROUGH READING PROFESSION-ORIENTED TEXTS IN ENGLISH (BASED ON THE GEOGRAPHY SPECIALTY)

Abstract
Abstract: This research investigates the pedagogical conditions for developing professional competency among undergraduate geography students at higher education institutions through the medium of reading content-based (subject-specific) English texts. The article subjects scientific literature regarding the categorical apparatus to a comparative-critical analysis, determining the role of the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) framework in training future geography specialists. Within the systematic processing of domain-specific texts, the study elucidates criteria for mastering the terminology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and global processes, utilizing cognitive strategies efficiently, and enhancing critical thinking capacities to resolve professional challenges.
