Abstract

Abstract. The article presents a substantiated analysis of the role of abrasive particles in the wear process of slot joints. The concentration, size, and origin of solid mechanical impurities consisting of soil-derived abrasive particles and wear products accumulated during oil change are determined, as they directly affect the wear of the contacting working surfaces. Particular attention is given to the influence of average abrasive particle size, contact spot curvature radii, and the depth and volume of particle penetration into the friction surfaces of the slots. Based on the derived analytical relationships, wear rates of the contacting surfaces of the shaft and hub slots in the driving bevel gear are calculated, taking into account the volume of medium-sized abrasive particles, their distribution within the contact area, and the total volume embedded into the deformation surface along the contact length. Furthermore, the probabilities of repeated deformation of the contact zone by abrasive particles, the number of deformation cycles resulting in the detachment of wear products within the slot joint, and the penetration depth of abrasive particles into the friction surfaces are evaluated as functions of the applied normal load and the hardness of the slot joint material.
