SPIRITUAL PERFECTION OF THE HUMAN BEING IN THE PHILOSOPHY OF AHMAD YASAWI: CULTIVATION OF THE SELF, SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE, AND THE CONCEPT OF THE PERFECT HUMAN

Abstract
This article analyzes the philosophical and ethical views of Khwaja Ahmad Yasawi, a prominent representative of twelfth-century Central Asian Sufi thought, on the basis of the “Diwan-i Hikmat” (“Book of Wisdom”) and sources associated with the Yasawiyya tradition. The study focuses primarily on the interrelationship between spiritual perfection, the cultivation of the self (nafs), spiritual knowledge (ma‘rifah), love, patience and contentment, honesty, humility, and the concept of the perfect human being in Yasawi’s worldview. The article also examines the role of the concepts of sharia, tariqa, ma‘rifah, and haqiqa in the spiritual and moral advancement of the human being. In addition, particular attention is given to the significance of Yasawi’s hikmats (wisdoms) in the formation of the spiritual thought and ethical worldview of the Turkic peoples.
