DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILLS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LESSONS
Abstract
This article analyzes the pedagogical and methodological foundations of developing students’ speaking skills in English language lessons. Speaking skills are regarded as an essential component of communicative competence in foreign language acquisition. The study examines the potential of the communicative approach, Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT), pair and small-group work, role-playing activities, problem-based situations, dialogic and monologic speech, as well as the use of digital tools. The article also proposes the use of such criteria as fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary range, grammatical accuracy, interaction, and logical expression of ideas in assessing students’ speaking skills. A methodological model for developing speaking skills based on the sequence “preparation – task performance – interaction – reflection – correction” is proposed.
