Abstract

Distance learning has become an increasingly prevalent mode of education delivery, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This article examines some of the fundamental aspects of distance learning, including its historical development, technological underpinnings, pedagogical approaches, benefits, challenges, and future outlook. A literature review was conducted to synthesize key findings from prior research on distance learning. The results highlight the rapid growth of distance learning in recent decades, the essential role of internet and multimedia technologies, the shift toward student-centered and collaborative online learning environments, the advantages of increased access and flexibility, and the challenges related to student engagement, digital equity, and instructor training.
