FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AS A TOOL FOR IMPROVING CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Formative assessment has emerged as one of the most effective pedagogical tools for improving classroom performance in modern education. Unlike summative assessment, which evaluates learning outcomes at the end of an instructional period, formative assessment focuses on continuous feedback and ongoing learning improvement. This paper explores the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and measurable impact of formative assessment on student achievement. It examines strategies such as feedback loops, peer assessment, self-assessment, diagnostic questioning, and performance-based tasks. The study argues that formative assessment enhances student motivation, engagement, and academic performance by promoting reflective learning and adaptive teaching practices. However, successful implementation requires teacher competence, institutional support, and alignment with curriculum standards. The paper concludes that formative assessment plays a critical role in fostering effective learning environments and improving classroom outcomes.
