SULTAN MURODBEK MADRASAH IN KOKAND: HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS OF A CULTURAL HERITAGE MONUMENT

Abstract

This article examines the historical development, architectural features, educational significance, and cultural value of the Sultan Murodbek Madrasah located in Kokand. The study is based on historical sources, scholarly works by Uzbek researchers, archival materials, and contemporary studies devoted to the architectural heritage of the Kokand Khanate. The research analyzes the madrasah as one of the important centers of Islamic education and intellectual life in the Fergana Valley during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Particular attention is given to the architectural composition of the monument, decorative elements, construction techniques, and restoration processes carried out in the modern period. The findings demonstrate that the Sultan Murodbek Madrasah represents not only a religious and educational institution but also an important symbol of the socio-cultural and artistic development of Kokand. The article contributes to the broader understanding of the historical heritage of Uzbekistan and the preservation of traditional Islamic architecture in Central Asia.
