ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS IN ISLAMIC SOURCES AND REFORMS IN NEW UZBEKISTAN RELATED TO ENSURING ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AND SHAPING MORAL RESPONSIBILITY
Main Article Content
Abstract
Abstract. This scholarly article provides a comprehensive analysis of the religious-ethical and legal foundations of environmental attitudes in Islamic sources, alongside the substance of reforms in New Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring ecological sustainability and strengthening moral responsibility. The study interprets key Qur’anic and Prophetic (Sunnah) principles-such as iʿmār al-arḍ (cultivating and improving the earth), amānah (stewardship and accountability for resources), restraint from isrāf (wastefulness), the prohibition of causing harm, cleanliness, and balance as the normative basis of ecological culture. The article demonstrates how these principles can be translated into practical behavioral norms, including water conservation, waste segregation, protection of green spaces, and compassion toward animal and plant life. In addition, it examines how policy directions in New Uzbekistan, such as the transition to a green economy, rational use of natural resources, strengthening environmental oversight, expanding public participation, and enhancing environmental education and awareness, are framed in harmony with moral values. Methodologically, the research employs source-based analysis and comparative approaches to substantiate the intrinsic link between religious-ethical norms and state environmental policy. The article concludes that achieving sustainable environmental outcomes requires not only technological and legal measures, but also the cultivation of moral responsibility as a decisive factor in transforming social behavior.
