THE STATUS AND RIGHTS OF WOMEN IN ISLAM: SOURCES AND MODERN INTERPRETATION
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyzes the status and rights of women in Islam on the basis of its primary sources — the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — as well as the classical scholarly tradition. The spiritual, educational, economic, family and social rights of women are examined, and the contribution of outstanding Muslim women to science and culture is highlighted. The article also discusses modern interpretations of these sources and their harmony with national legislation and international standards on gender equality, including the experience of Uzbekistan.
